How Do I Export a Filtered Report?
My team needs to be able to export reports that have various report filters applied to them; I have built a report and added the required report filters but I can't figure out how (if it's even supported) to export the filtered report.
The csv export always gives me the full data set. :(
Thanks in advance for any insight/help!
Hi Joel !
At this time, exported reports with Filters applied will still show the entire dataset. This has been requested before and I'll be sure to add your vote to it!
In the meantime, you can use Parameters to modify the data that gets loaded in the report and export this dataset. Here is some more information about the difference between Parameters and Filters. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
I have implemented multiselect dynamic parameters and while they do technically work, this does not look like a good solution since I need the dynamic parameters to only show options that are relevant to the main query (like a filter) and to get this to happen I have to:
- Run the query the first time to build the parameters. Since the parameters weren't populated before the run (they are based on user-selected parameters selected before the 1st run), I get no results from my primary query.
- Now that the dynamic parameters are populated, run the query a 2nd time to get all results.
- Then, if I want to apply a dynamic parameter, I need to run the query a 3rd time.
And even then, when I finally have the results I need, my export is multiple CSV files in a zipped folder (one for each of the queries I'm running) but I only need the CSV for my primary query.
- Can I queue my queries so the dynamic parameter query is run before the primary query? This would reduce the query runs to 2.
- Is there any way to have better control over what is being exported?
It would be really great to have exportable, or even copy/paste-able results with filters!
Hi Joel Bells !
Just to clarify, is your dynamic parameter defined by another dynamic parameter? Something like this: https://modeanalytics.com/modeanalytics/reports/cfde2e398360/queries/43ecc6678b96?search_pos=2 ?
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to queue a dynamic parameter and reduce the number of runs in this case. All results do get exported from the report view, however you can also export the results of a single query from the Editor.
I have sent your request to our product team to allow exporting filtered results and I will certainly circle back if this is implemented.
Also, just FYI, feel free to reach out to the support team via chat from the product my clicking on the ? -> Contact us.
Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with!
Jennifer Chu It's not being defined by a dynamic parameter but the dynamic parameter is being defined by a the results of a query that are defined using parameters and multi select parameters (to make sure only valid parameters are added to the dynamic parameter) - it's likely the same/similar issue.
Thanks - I'll be sure to reach out via chat in the future!
Hi Joel Bells ,
Just following up here. We are looking into potential solutions for supporting filtering of exported results. We are currently in the research gathering phase. As such, I would really appreciate it if you could briefly address the following questions for your use case:
A) Are you currently using report level filters or visualization level filters for your use case?
B) What is the filtering action that you take immediately before wanting to export the dataset? Is it excluding certain values via the report filters, utilizing drill downs, or what exactly?
C) Where do you navigate to export the desired filtered data? Do you click on the “Export” button on the top of the Report View page or somewhere else? If so, are you attempting to export the report as a CSV or a PDF?
Thanks so much for your assistance, and we look forward to hearing your responses!
Following up on everyone's inquiries about whether there's an update in the works. I'm getting a lot of requests from stakeholders on this topic.
The only other hacky way I'm showing them how to do it is moving fields into other chart types (non-table types) and then downloading the CSV through the explore function.
Please add a +1 for this feature!
