Check if schema is in use by any reports

I'd like to drop some stale Redshift schemas, but I don't know how to confirm whether or not those schemas are currently in use by any existing queries. Is there a quick way to do this?

  • Hi Ben Papillon - thanks for writing in and apologies for the delayed response.

There is no way to search the SQL code of all of the reports in your Mode organization. However, many of our customers find that searching the recent (3-6 months back) execution logs in their database for the schemas/tables in question is sufficient to ensure that the tables or schemas aren't being actively used anymore.

Hope that helps - please do reach out to our success team via in-product chat or if we can be of further assistance. Thanks!

Hi  Ben Papillon - Mode recently released a feature for Mode Business organizations that allows you to synchronize all of the assets in your Mode organization to a GitHub repo. If you do this, you can clone that repo on your computer and perform a simple text search across all of the .SQL files in the repo to look for the stale schemas you're looking to drop.

You can find more information about the Mode GitHub sync here.

  • We're using the GitHub integration already and it has been great for this. Thanks!
